The Bids of Rohit Sharma Test cricket is coming to an end

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has stepped down from Test cricket.

“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” he said in his Instagram story

After being named captain in the longest format in 2022, the 38-year-old led India to the World Test Championship Final in 2023 against Australia.
Rohit’s retirement follows a disappointing five-Test series against Australia in which the seasoned player managed just 31 runs from three Test matches.

Due to his lean patch, Rohit “opted out” of the playing XI in the last Test of the series, instead being replaced by pace leader Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit debuted onto the Test arena in style, smashing 177 on debut against West Indies in Kolkata in 2013. for India in 2013 and played in 67 Test matches, amassing 4301 runs at an average of 40.6, with 12 hundreds and 18 half-centuries.

With 288 runs against the West Indies, the hitter enjoyed a great first series. In spite of this start, Rohit first found it difficult to establish himself in the Test lineup before emerging as the team’s preferred opener in 2019.

His two outings in the ICC World Test Championship Final and India’s historic Test series victory in Australia in 2020–21 were among the highlights of his ten-year career in whites.

Rohit led India in 24 Test matches as a leader in the longest format, winning 12 and losing 9. He led the side to the 2023 World Test Championship Final at The Oval, despite criticism for India’s performance during the recent tour of Australia, where they were unable to advance to the World Test Championship Final.

India lost 1-3 on the tour of Australia and 0-3 at home against New Zealand in the last two series, when Rohit was captaining the squad.

After leading India to the Men’s T20 World Cup championship in 2024, Rohit had already announced the end of his T20I career.

Rohit clarified that he will continue to captain the side in the 50-over format after leading it to the ICC Champions Trophy victory earlier this year.

India is ready to select a new Test captain for the next five-Test series in England, and Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant are all potential choices.
